About ECC
From Then to Now
East Caribbean Cellular, NV (ECC) was established in 1989 as a Netherlands Antilles corporation for the purpose of operating a wireless telephone system. ECC is the islands oldest and largest wireless service provider with a wide coverage in the Caribbean.
Our Network
From 1988 until 1999 ECC operated on a Plexsys 200-channel AMP system. This system could serve a block of 10,000 subscribers. A Nortel digital IS-136 switch with a subscriber capacity of 150,000 was installed in 1999. With the introduction of this new system, ECC can now provide its subscribers with the advantages of digital technology and the long range dependability of an analog system.
From its inception until 1999 ECC has erected a total of thirteen cell sites. Located on the Dutch and French Side of St. Maarten including St. Barthelemy. The cell sites provide the islands and surrounding waters with a wide seamless coverage. East Caribbean Cellular offers cellular coverage of Dutch St. Maarten, French St. Martin, St. Barthelemy, Saba, the Anguilla Channel and the surrounding waters.
East Caribbean Cellular frequency allocation is "System B Home Only" (System ID #31396), this is to prevent frequency pick-up from non-subscriber channels (see "Roamers").
ECC offers many complimentary options such as Voice Mail, Call Forwarding, Call Conferencing, Caller ID and Call Waiting (see "Calling Options").
